Get to Know Kathleen

Kathleen Cruse-Grasser, LPCC-S

Kathleen is a Licensed Professional Clinical Counselor with a Supervision endorsement. Her education, training, and experience has been focused on childhood and adolescence. Kathleen has worked at Nationwide Children’s Hospital for 10 years and has experience working with teens needing mental health support in school as a mental health specialist for Dublin City Schools. She has experience working with children, teens, and their families who are struggling with how to manage issues related to anxiety, depression, ADHD, autism spectrum disorder, trauma, suicidal ideation, self-harm, substance abuse, and behavioral problems. Kathleen has worked with families who have different ethnic and cultural backgrounds, as well as LGBTQ+ youth. She is a trauma-informed clinician and has provided trauma-specific treatment to children and teens.

Kathleen takes a systems approach, meaning that if one member of the system is struggling, the entire system is stressed. One individual alone cannot change unless their environment shifts and adapts to support growth. Children and teens are learning how to make sense of their system for the first time. While targeting skills and strengths with the child, therapy also heavily involves the caregiver and may also involve other family members, schools, medical professionals, coaches, or others in the child’s environment for them to truly thrive. Kathleen’s therapeutic work draws from evidence-based models, such as, Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Skills training (elements from Dialectical Behavioral Therapy, DBT), and Solution-Focused Therapy (SFT).

Many families are seeking counseling as a preventative step, a stop along the way to refuel, or as a last resort. As a parent of two, Kathleen can understand that children and teens may or may not have the choice to come to counseling. Either way, it is her goal and passion to meet them where they are and build a meaningful relationship to help them achieve a healthy and happy life.
